Nom Nom has been in hands of the backer’s for a little over a month and open to the public on the worldofnomnom.com. A few hiccups here and there, hard decisions and hard pivots were made. However it is finally here.
The first base set was funded by the Kickstarter last March 2024. Their goals were met within the first few hours showed how much people believe in this one of a kind game.
As a TCG player and collector of other games such as Magic the Gathering and One Piece, I was very satisfied with the way the card quality for Nom Nom. The colors were vibrant and picture quality was really sharp. Cards are sturdier than MTG not as flimsy. Could use a bit more sharpening for the meta details, but doesn’t take away how great these cards look.
Leading us to question, “What are the top 10 chase cards from this set?” After opening hundreds of packs and sore thumbs (had to switch to scissors not even through my first box). The hunt was on for my first pixel rare!
To give context of how rare and limited these pixel rares are; Pixel Foiling only comes on Phenominal Rare (PR) and Astronomical Rare (AR).
The community calculated 85,000 booster packs made for KS Base Set Boosters.
There is supposed to be 1 seeded Pixel Rare per Booster Box.
20 Phenomenal Rares in Base Set Boosters – 233 of each
That would mean every pack you open you have a 5% chance to get a Pixel Rare. However, if you were hunting a specific card for a master set you would have a 0.27% chance of getting the one you wanted.
4 Astronomical Rares in Base Set Boosters – 292 of each.
Even though it seems there are more of each AR, you have a 1.37% chance to pull an AR from a pack and 0.3% chance to get the one you are chasing from a single pack.
Some pixels are only found in Blisters and Promo Packs, and yes you will need them to complete the set!
Here is a list of what I believe are the Top 10 Pixels to hunt for! Don’t take my word for it, everyone will have their own lists! Let’s get into it.
10. King Regulos

Alright King Regulos an AR at 10, I know. I chose this spot because it’s an Astronomical Rare, and it’s a very strong Kaiju Boss. You only need 1 to complete your set. However there are other Kaiju bosses that used for game play and not a make or break in the game if you do not own him.
9. Udoni

Udoni took me a while to find, the 1 of 2 pixel champions. This champ has great support abilities for anyone’s deck, and you can have up to 2 per deck. Definitely a card to hunt for a complete playset.
8. Dragon of Aeons

If you own one, you will have one strong Nomsters defending your Boss. This dragon has a supporting card Egg of Aeons that can help you call this Dragon from any zone to the Sector that the egg is played in.
7. Peanut Alt Art AR – Drawn by Isaac Sky Lee

This little guy, is a force to be reckoned with. Versatile being a Pathfinder, able to be played as either a champion or nomster, won’t back down from a challenge. Peanut packs a punch as a Kaiju Hunter. When played against you, a threat you will want to figure out how to deal with. I ranked him at a 7 because if you want to play him his
6. Mugi

This little guy is a must have just for the opportunity to put in a deck. He will be the other pixelated champion in set that can be obtained from boosters. If you don’t have Mugi, you can’t play Big Red.
5. Wolf Idol

The last piece of Exodia! And the only Pixel Idol. It’s other counterparts were the chase during the Prototype Packs. This card boosts your ally’s attack power and can give you a huge advantage if not removed.
4. Bell Dragon

Bell Dragon is a pathfinder like Peanut, but oh so different. Instead he is a super support for either champions or nomsters wherever. Be sure to snag 2 of these, too bad there wasn’t an Alt Art, or it would of been a AR.
3. Rain Master Alt Art AR – Drawn by Levitzo

Need I say more. I guess I do, if you are new to Nom Nom or have been a fan, you know this little guy isn’t one to pass up. A very strong Nomster who has ranged attack. You will need 2 of these to complete a playset, and if you like shiny cards this one to snag. If you think about it, 1 for your collection and 2 to play with, at most 97 people could be so fortunate.
2. Beta 3 Alt Art PR- Drawn by Poncho

Beta 3’s Alt Art is definitely a favorite because so many people want one. A great Kaiju and who doesn’t like a 3-Headed Mechanical Dragon. This rendition drawn by Poncho a reputable artist known for artwork in other games definitely one to collect to get a piece of his artwork.
1. Big Daddy Alt Art AR – Drawn by Wafalo

Even though it’s a Kaiju Boss it brings the morale up in your ally champs and buffs the squad! Drawn by the guest artist Wafalo with such detail, really made Big Daddy become a fearsome foe. Definitely one to collect. Being an AR this will be one to hunt for will digging into packs. With only 292 known printed in the Kickstarter Base Set, only a handful of people will be able to get their hands on this card.
Conclusion
This Top 10 may not be the same as everyone’s list, but sure is how I see it. Also, there are other AR’s that can be obtained from blisters and box toppers. If you haven’t been fortunate enough to see these cards in person, go grab a booster box to make sure you get at least 1 pixel. You won’t be disappointed!
